Virtualized Servers and Applications
Virtualization is emerging as a key technology enabling efficient,
cost-effective server deployment. Coyote Point, a pioneer in
load balancing, application delivery and application acceleration
technology continues to lead the pack by offering comprehensive
solutions for enhancing load balancing of virtual servers and
applications.
Superior Application Delivery in a Virtual World
Equalizer VLB™ and Equalizer VLB Advanced™ are software enabled
application delivery solutions optimized for load balancing
VMware Infrastructure™. Equalizer guarantees the uptime of applications
delivered by virtual servers and real servers alike. This provides
a comprehensive load balancing and application acceleration
solution for today's organizations that require 100% application
availability. Advanced solutions like redundancy, business continuity
and application acceleration can also be addressed in a virtual
infrastructure by proven Equalizer functionality. IT business
leaders can now ensure optimum use of virtual hardware resources
by effectively managing resource provisioning of physical servers
. Hot spots and the need to overprovision to handle load spikes
are eliminated. The fiscal impact is both in reducing capital
expenses (fewer servers) as well as reducing operational expenses
(power, cooling, and management). Improved plotting in the Equalizer
GUI allows these new load balancing methods to be easily monitored.
Combine this with the highest application availability, improved
application response times and you have a complete solution
that enhances the success of a virtual server environment.
Equalizer VLB and VMware® Servers
Coyote Point Equalizers with VLB configured monitor VMware
vCenter or ESX server (VMware infrastructure) to determine virtual
machine status. Combining our proven expertise, awareness of
application availability and server traffic trends with VMware's
ability to monitor the VMware servers and physical resource
utilization allows higher application performance and availability
to be achieved compared to load balancing and virtualization
working independently. Equalizer VLB utilizes VMware's management
API to retrieve the real-time virtual server performance information
from VMware. This VMware information is combined with Coyote
Point's application and network aware capabilities to manage
the traffic flowing to VMware Virtual Machines running on ESX
server.
- Equalizer VLB utilizes performance metrics via the VMware
Infrastructure API
- Equalizer VLB monitors virtualized application performance
and availability invisible to VMware.
- Guarantees Uptime and Business Continuity by eliminating
single points of failure
Make Equalizer your automated NOC managers
Equalizer VLB Advanced enhances the VLB feature-set, and
also adds several features which allow VLB to control the behavior
of the virtual machines, in addition to the behavior of the
traffic for those virtual machines. Coyote Point has taken load
balancing VMware infrastructure to the next level with Equalizer
VLB Advanced. Equalizer VLB Advanced is an option for the E350GX,
E450GX, and ships as a standard feature of the E650GX.
- Equalizer VLB Advanced offers VLB Smart Control threshold
capabilities.
- Enables monitoring and controlling application performance
and server responses
- Allows for automated VMware responses to application-centric
events
The Result; higher performing applications, reduced
capital expenses (fewer servers) as well as reducing operational
expenses (power, cooling, and management).

EqualizerVLB Advanced with Smart Control goes beyond load
balancing.
Administrators can define threshold conditions for parameters
that will trigger a VMware response. The actions and triggers
supported by VLB Smart Control include:
Auto-quiesce trigger events for multiple applications running
on the same server, in different clusters, VLB will auto-quiesce
servers that are not currently needed due to low traffic, freeing
resources for other applications or to permit powering down
unused physical servers.
Auto-shutdown & Auto-on event triggers can automatically
shut down or start a virtual server when the trigger event occurs.
This means that Equalizer VLB will tell the VMware ESX Server
or vCenter to shut down a virtual server allowing VMware to
then use the resources for other virtual machines. This is particularly
important for VMware configurations using VMotion to migrate
idle virtual servers to another physical server. VLB monitors
application performance and availability invisible to VMware.
This allows automated VMware responses to application centric
events such as an application that stops running (has crashed).
Auto-reboot triggers ask the VMware ESX Server or vCenter
to reboot a virtual server to restart a "crashed" application.
Auto-minimum triggers help if a server in a VLB enabled cluster
goes down, and the number of currently active servers falls
below a pre-set minimum to do one of the following: power-on
a server, unquiesce a server or activate a warm-spare server.
All smart controls can be configured to send administrators
a message when triggered.
Equalizer guarantees the uptime of applications delivered
by virtual servers while providing comprehensive, proactive
management and optimization of virtualized applications and
services.
